First Presbyterian, Benton

One thing that most of these pictures share is the constant presence of electrical lines. Will cities ever put them underground?

Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist, Haskell

I like a church on a hill that reveals itself slowly.

The steeple brings to mind Churchill Downs,
home of the Kentucky Derby.

First Missionary Baptist, Brinkley

Founded in 1875 as Brinkley's First Baptist. The lancet windows and the back 2/3rds of the church are original to the building, while it's clear the lighter bricks were part of the 1975 remodel.

Here's a closer look at the dividing line. Notice half the brick window surround is part of the addition.

It's always better to misspell on paper than in granite.

St. Mark Whole Truth Church

Faith and tarpaper hold up this tiny church in Monroe County.

Barton Baptist, Phillips County

We thought this church was missing its steeple, but it's not.
It's just kind of a stubby steeple..

... with loudspeakers.

Little Rock Compassion Center

Good Shepherd, storefront compassion...

..and a well secured,
wheel chair accessible,
two door toy office,
complete with wishing well steeple.

St. Patrick Catholic Church, North Little Rock

A castle keep 'steeple' and crenelated battlements makes this church look like it's here for the duration.

A drawbridge style entry...

...two spectacular doors with impressive iron hardware...

...and a gorgeous Madonna.

Carver Chapel

I didn't fool you, did I? No, it's not a church; it's a picnic pavilion outside of Carver Magnet Elementary in east Little Rock.

Maybe it's supposed to look like a schoolhouse, but it looks like a church to me.

Shepherdsfold Church, Little Rock

The peaked window on the left is about the only hint that this is a church.

Pine Grove Baptist, Little Rock

On Dixon Road, near Sweet Home.
The classic look of a southern church.

Sign outside reads:
Where everybody is somebody and Jesus Christ is Lord.

Lighthouse Ministries, Randolph County

The handmade sign got my attention.

Cristo Vision, Little Rock

The sign reads:
Cristo-Vision Missionary Church
Full Gospel
Bilingual Services

This little church on Baseline seems hemmed in by wires and cars and fences and buildings. But it may be fixing to levitate.

St. Andrew United Methodist, Little Rock

Nice vertical lift from the south. A trinity triptich. See the cross above?
It's atop the steeple, seen here from the east.
I don't think I care for the eyes, though. They look a tad sinister.

Shiloh Baptist, Little Rock

I've long had a fondness for this church. It's just down the road from my shop, in the Hanger Hill neighborhood. The twin towers, the fine brickwork, the repeated use of the gothic arch... I even like the corner sign.

Visitors Welcome

New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Pulaski County

I'll be posting pictures here of Arkansas churches, hopefully on a daily basis.

Visitors are indeed welcome. Feel free to leave comments.
