In my travels around the state of Arkansas, I tend to be drawn to houses of worship. There is an amazing diversity of architectural styles when it comes to churches, and I try to record that diversity here. Please excuse my amateur bumbling with a camera; I'm learning as I go along.

Of all the abandoned buildings I've seen (and I seek them out, you know), abandoned churches make me the most wistful, bringing about a sadness that I can't quite explain, being an athiest. I guess that the thought of so much faith and rebirth being allowed to disintegrate under the very noses of those who appreciated it the most is what gets me.
I feel the same way. There's probably a handful of people still living nearby this church who have memories of baptisms and weddings and funerals that took place here. To see it crumble has got to be tough for them.
What's almost as sad is the country church with a congregation of 3 or 4 people, all elderly, who can't even get a circuit riding preacher to come by once a month to conduct a service. They must realize that this is the next step.
