Also on Highway 31 just north of Lonoke. Looks to me like a converted dairy bar. A "Future Home Of..." sign has been erected on the wooded lot to the north, so there's an expansion in store.

Wattensaw Baptist, Lonoke County

I snapped this photo back in April. The floods shortly after closed Highway 31. As Wattensaw is right next to Waterproof, I reckon they fared okay. By now, they probably miss those rains.

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. Spring and early summer are my busiest times, so I haven't been able to escape the shop and just drive. I'll try to get out more. Until then, I have a few saved up, so I'll post those.

Visually, there's a lot going on with this church.

It was built in 1922.

Traveler's Rest M.B., Humnoke

Clear Lake Baptist, Lonoke County

A humble country church just west of England. The cornerstone says it was rebuilt in 1925, but this may be church number three.

The aluminum siding and air conditioning are decidedly DIY.

Old Austin Baptist, Lonoke County

Old Austin, just northeast of Cabot, is one of the oldest towns in central Arkansas. It could have been chosen as the state capitol; it could have attracted the railroad; it could have been the site of Ouachita Baptist University; but none of these things came to pass. Austin was the midway stop for the Butterfield Stage between Memphis and Fort Smith, and it was the home of one of the state's oldest Baptist associations.

As for what is in Old Austin anymore, there's this nice little Baptist church. That and a historical marker are about it.

It's just outside of town by the dunking creek.

All Souls, Scott

I have admired this church for a long time. It has got to be one of the most beautiful churches in Arkansas.

Built in 1906, All Souls was interdenominational before such a thing was popular.

When I came through about a month and a half ago, there was a very well attended picnic going on outside and the folks looked like they were having a grand old time. Not wanting to draw attention to myself, I came back a couple of weeks later to snap these pictures.

There's even a churchy tool shed out back.
